"it's hard not to be swept up in their rambunctious pleasure" ~ Ben Brantley
Saturday Players presents the New York premier of LOVE IN PIECES: a play in four parts, as part of The New York International Fringe Festival, FringeNYC, a production of The Present Company. FringeNYC runs August 9-25.
This dark comedy presents eight famous fictional soul mates in four separate vignettes. Ryan Brack and Lisa Gardner portray all four couples: Antony and Cleopatra vanquish their sexual boredom through cross-dressing. Ophelia lounges in a bubble bath while Laertes lectures her about her pretentious boyfriend. Orpheus retrieves Eurydice and discovers jazz music in Hell. Psyche nurses a newly de-winged cupid and teaches him how to cut paper snowflakes.
LOVE IN PIECES received its debut at The Cleveland Playhouse, earning author Sarah Morton their 1997 Chilcote Award for Most Innovative Work by an Ohio Playwright.
SATURDAY PLAYERS is a troupe of performers, artists and technicians dedicated to making the theater fun again, with what Billboard Magazine calls "the deliberate feeling of a group of buddies putting on a show in their basement." Their 2001 production of Trey Parker's Cannibal! The Musical Love On Stage ran for five sold-out months at The Kraine Theater and prompted CNN's Showbiz This Weekend to proclaim, "You could be seeing a preview of Broadway's next biggest hit!"
To purchase tickets ($12), call (212) 420-8877 in New York, or 1-888-FringeNYC outside New York.
